How to know if your jewelry is real silver

by Cidrera

If you're thinking about buying a piece of jewelry or want to check the material of the jewelry you already own, keep reading.

All jewelry must have at least two hallmarks (quality marks). You may be wondering, what is a hallmark? Well, here it is:

These marks include the manufacturer's stamp and the hallmark from an official laboratory.

Jewelry must always be hallmarked by an official body to guarantee that it is made from the materials stated by the artisan or manufacturer.

*Each country has its own regulations for jewelry hallmarks*

This is how the hallmark is applied:

This is our stamp, which we use to mark all our jewelry

According to the Spanish Association of Jewelers (AEJPR), it is illegal to sell a piece that is not properly marked.

Therefore:

1. The manufacturer's stamp must be registered with the "Spanish Patent and Trademark Office", and the manufacturer's logo must be recognizable on it.

2. Official hallmarks are easily distinguished by:

· The type of precious metal (sterling silver: 925, 18kt gold: 750).

· A code that identifies the official laboratory (for example, our jewelry is hallmarked by the JORGC, with code C-2, internationally approved hallmark).

You might be wondering:

What happens if the piece of silver, gold, or other material is too small to be stamped?

If the piece is too small to bear a hallmark, the official laboratory provides a special label that includes the name of the metal used in that jewelry piece.
